CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
 

To qualify, all applicants must complete a 50+ hour NBCCH approved Clinical Hypnosis training, must carry malpractice insurance, and must attest that they have never been convicted of a felony. Only U.S. Veterans or practitioners who work exclusively for the VA are exempt from certification fees (but must meet all other criteria).

 

CERTIFICATION OPTIONS:

 a.  NBCCH (National Board Certified Hypnotherapist).  Meets all above requirements and is actively licensed as a mental or physical healthcare professional by the state in which you work.   

​

 b.  NBCDCH (Diplomate).  Meets criteria for NBCCH + 2 years of active hypnotherapy practice.  

​

 c.  NBCFCH (Fellow).  Meets criteria for NBCCH + 4 years of active hypnotherapy practice.   

   

 d.  NBCHt (National Board Certified Hypnotist).  Never licensed as a mental or physical healthcare professional, or has a lapsed or expired license.  [Caution:  Unlicensed hypnotists are governed by state law even where there is no specific law governing hypnosis.  Most states prohibit the practice of medicine without a health-related license.  This means that it is unlawful to treat any issue for which there is a diagnostic code.  Hypnosis to stop smoking, for weight loss, and for self-improvement is permitted in most states.  This includes treating procrastination, phobias, fear of speaking, shyness, issues related to academic study, sports or arts performance, or relationship issues. It doesn't include treatment of mood, anxiety/depression, trauma, or physical conditions.]

 e.  Retired, Semi-retired (< 20 hrs/week), or Student-Intern.    

​

 f.   International membership (outside U.S. or Canada).  

​

 g.  Veterans with honorable discharge or active duty or works exclusively for the VA.  Complimentary lifetime membership (but annual renewal application required).
